ANP will not leave PPP alone

[18.Sep.2008 - 16:24] Central Information Secretary of Awami National Party Mr.Zahid Khan has said that ANP would continue extending unconditional support to the PPP-led coalition government for the cause of democracy. “At this stage, the country direly needs continuation of democratic system and the ANP will not leave PPP alone, in the time of trial, on any petty issues,” he said while talking to PTV on Wednesday. He however underlined that in a democratic set up mandate of each and every political party should be respected. The ANP spokesman urged the political parties to get united and evolve a collective strategy on important national issues in the supreme national interest. Zahid Khan welcomed the election of Asfandyar Wali as the Chairman of National Assembly’s Committee on Foreign Relations. Asfandyar Wali would work for formation of foreign policies on the basis of equality and keeping national interests supreme, he said. In future, foreign policies would be reflective of the voice of the parliament and the wishes of Pakistani people, he added. He said it was beauty of democracy that a single statement by Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani with regard to safeguarding territorial integrity of the country has compelled the US to send its representatives to Pakistan to discuss the issue on the negotiating table. Zahid Khan said the US knew that it was not a mere statement by the army chief but he had full backing of the parliament and the entire nation. To a question, he said some vested elements were challenging writ of the state in tribal areas and vowed that the government would uproot the menace of extremism and terrorism from the society. - د پښتونخوا خبریال
