Buner jirga bans entry of Taliban, security forces
[14.Aug.2008 - 20:41]BUNER: Rejecting the proposal of deploying security forces in the area, a jirga here on Monday decided to maintain law and order on its own. The jirga unanimously decided that it would not allow entry of Taliban or establishment of checkposts in the area. They reached the conclusion that groups of armed volunteers at village level would be formed to patrol the area. Representatives of political parties and religious organisations including ANP general secretary Syed Laiq Bacah, JUI president Maulana Mohammad Shereen, TNSM spokesperson Saiful Malook, Maulana Misbahudeen Malikpuree, JUI-F leader Maulana Haleemur Reham, PPP local leader Usaman Shah Khan, MPA Qaiser Wali Khan, PML-N leader Sardar Jehan, PPP-S leader Sher Akbar Khan, Jamia Masjid Pir Baba khateeb Hamayunur Rashed Siyalve, PAP leader Sher Zaman Khan, PML-Q leader Sarzamin Khan, former minister Mohamad Kareem Babak, JI leader Mohammad Hanif, District Nazim Haji Rouf Khan and MMA leader Haji Fazal Raziq addressed the jirga at college ground in Swari. The speakers were unanimous to forge unity among their ranks by foiling any attempt to create law and order situation in the district. They made it clear that Taliban and security forces would not be allowed to enter the valley and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the district. The jirga decided that peace in the region would be ensured on self-help bases by creating own force. Participants of the jirga were of the opinion that presence of Taliban or deployment of armed forces would further aggravate the situation. The jirga unanimously passed an eight-point declaration. The declaration condemned all terrorist and extremist activities in the district. Banned entry of Taliban and security forces and Taliban militants and paid tributes to slain police personnel besides demanding handsome compensation for the families of the victims. Other points of the declaration include raise in strength of security forces, deployment of FC jawans, special package for forces, return of district based forces from other districts, reinforcement at vacated police posts like kalil, Karakar, Kingargali etc, clue to attackers and handing them over to locals. Participants of the jirga said that district level peace committees would be established and each committee would have 25 to 30 armed volunteers to protect villages and also move to other places in case of any attack by miscreants. د پښتنو قامی سنګر- Abdur Rahman Abid
