cultural evening with poet Abasin Yousafzai
[04.Jul.2008 - 22:28]MARDAN: Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) held a literary cum cultural evening with renowned poet Abasin Yousafzai at Executive Club Sheikh Maltoon on Saturday night. Senior poet Ikramullah Gran was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion he said that Abasin Yousafzai was distinguished from his contemporary poets because of his unique style and substance adding that he had versified social and political problems of the people. He said Abasin had always projected his love for his people and homeland in his poetry. “Abasin Yousafzai has firm roots in social and cultural values in Pashtun’s society and tries to exhibit them in his lofty verses. He has impacted many young poets by his inspiring poetry.”
Veteran poet Mohammad Iqbal Iqbal who presided over the function remarked that the personality of Prof Abasin Yousafzai had many shades and facets and should be explored properly maintaining that his contributions in the field of literature even at his young age were unsurpassed. “ Abasin true to his name is a multidimensional personality and attained a widespread fame at such a young age that others would not have it in Mamoonur Rashid Rashid in his paper titled Druned Pakhtun (Respectable Pakhtun) pointed out he had borrowed the title for his paper from a poem of Samandar Khan Samandar in which he had envisioned an ideal Pashtun possessing all the qualities that a typical Pashtun should have. “ I found that Abasin Yousafzai possesses all the characteristics of the Pashtun portrayed by Samandar Baba many years ago in one of his famous poems, he had been alive today he would get much satisfaction over the fact that his Druned Pakhtun (ideal Pashtun) does exist in the shape of Prof Abasin Yousafzai.” Sheikh Shaukat Hayat presented a thought -provoking paper on various aspects of Abasin Yousafzai. He said, Abasin’s poetry is like a kaleidoscope encompassing all the miseries and joys prevailing in Pashtun society. “ He knows that his people are backward and ignorant but still he dreams for their betterment and envisages a bright future for them. He knows that there is no end to the bad days on Pashtuns but still he sees light at the end of the tunnel.” Abasin, he said paints a comprehensive picture of a typical Pashtun psyche. He is the poet of love, humanism and peace. He has equal command over both prose and poetry.” Shaukat observed that Abasin had no jealousy against even his so-called opponents. Sahil Yousafzai while commenting on Abasin’s art of poetry said that he had magnetic qualities that never betrayed anyone but presented a true picture of what was there before his eyes. ‘ Abasin is a great source for the young poets and writers, Sahil said. Prof Zubair Hasrat chairman Da Adabi Dostaano Maraka Mardan read out a poem written by veteran nationalist and poet Ajmal Khattak Baba throwing light on Prof Abasin’s personality and artistic qualities. Habib Abid and Ajmal Mansoor presented poetic tributes to the guest poet. Syed Farman Ali Shah Teshil Municipal Officer (TMO) reiterated his pledge that his administration would continue holding similar evenings with eminent poets and writes of Mardan. Abasin thanked TMA Mardan for honouring him. It was followed by a musical concert in which a rising singer Rabi Shahid sang popluar numbers of Abasin and received great applause from the audience. Ashraf Shaheen conducted the function in a beautiful manner. Large number of poets, writers, intellectuals and fans of Abasin Yousafzai attended it.
