Poverty, joblessness pushing youth towards drug addiction: Sheikh Ashraf

   “Drug addiction is a global scourge having extremely disastrous implications on the future of a nation. It destroys not only the user's life, but also affects the rest of the society. It is a challenge and requiring stern measures to curb the menace from the society”.
   These views were expressed by President SCORE-PK Sheikh Muhammad Ashraf Khan Mandokhail, while speaking during an awareness campaign against drug addiction, initiated by Sustainable Community Organization for Residents Empowerment (SCORE-PK) here in Zhob.
   He said that the major portion of the population in the country consisted of youth and they were highly exposed to use drugs. There were more than 91 million drug addicts in the country and about 0.6 million new addicts were joining the force of drug addicts every year. He revealed.
   “The menace of drug-addiction is increasing in our society with each passing day. Poverty, joblessness and hopelessness pushing youth towards drug addiction. And they find their refuge in drug addiction”. He added.
   He said that the consequences of drug use, causing permanent physical and emotional damage to users and impacting negatively their families.
   Replying to a question, he said that it was a dilemma in the far flung areas of Zhob, hundreds of Zhobites were drug-addicted, even the new generation, adding the main addiction here was of Hashish (Chars), because it was easily available at every nook and corner of the city. He feared.
   Drug addiction was a challenge and requiring stern measures to curb the menace from the society.
   SCORE-PK works for awareness against drug addiction. The organization organizes trainings and workshops aimed to eradicate menace from the society and initiated a campaign against narcotics. He added.
  
   There was a dire need to educate the people regarding the adverse effects of drug-addiction. The young people need to come out to perish this curse and uproot from the society.
    “Fighting the drug abuse is not only our religious duty but also a moral obligation. Every individual of the society needs to play his due role in the elimination of narcotics from the society”. He appealed.
