Dr Kabir Stori, Qamar Zaman Taizai remembered
[08.May.2006 - 08:45]PESHAWAR: Paying rich tributes to renowned poet, intellectual and political activist Dr Kabir Storay, ANP leader Afzal Khan Lala said that that he was a great poet and writer in addition to being a political activist who promoted Pakhtun cause despite all odds. Addressing as chief guest at literary reference organised by Ghani Adabi, Saqafati, Auo Tehqiqi Jirga and Alami Pashto Congress at Peshawar Press Club here on Sunday he called upon Pakhtun poets, writers and intellectuals to propagate the message of Dr Kabir Storay for Pakhtuns unification. Dr Sher Zaman Taizai said that Qamar Zaman Taizai was though a religious minded person yet he was typical Pakhtun. Commenting on his poetry he said that he was keen observer of the society and has satirised the follies and foibles of the people in his verses. Also he said Qamar Taizai was a very good literary critic and has shown his art of criticism in numerous literary and critical comments on the books of many poets. Prof Asif Sameem said that Qamar Taizai was the poet of love and has tried his best to use his skill for spreading the message of harmony and love among the general masses. Mian Farooq Firaq in his brief remarks said the Quatrains of Qamar Zaman Qamar Taizai are reflective of the social issues. Arshad Khan Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) said that Dr Kabir Storay was practical man in many respects. Dwelling upon his political struggle for Pakhtuns's national integration he said “Once during General Zia's regime he was put into prison upon his request that an office should be given to him in the city so that he could work for the greater unity of Pakhtuns. It was his big wish he should suffer any punishment for the Pakhtun cause.” Mubariz Sapi a German-based Afghan scholar and writer said that he and his other companions suffered great and irreparable loss due the death of Dr Kabir Storay. Dr Kabir Storay a psychiatric by profession he added wanted to transfer scholarly research works into Pashto language through translation. Prof Jehanzeb Niaz in his speech said “Dr Kabir Storay and Qamar Zaman both contributed immensely to Pakhtun nation and Pashto literature through their thought provoking writings.” Laiqzada Laiq said that Kabir Storay and Qamar Zaman Qamar Taizai needed to be explored and discovered by the researchers. He observed that both the literary giants had dedicated their lives to serve their mother tongue. Dr Kabir Storay was born in 1942, 26 April in Kunar province of Afghanistan and passed away on April 4, 2006 in Germany and his body was flown to Peshawar and then taken to his village, Tannar where he was buried at his ancestral graved on April 7. Among important works of Dr Kabir Storay are Sandareez Paighaam (Poetry collection), Intelligent Test (Research work), language psychology and Khawagay Misray. He was the member of International Association of Applied Psychology and also member of Pakhtun Social Democratic Party (PSDP). Qamar Zaman the elder brother of Dr Sher Zaman Taizai was born in 1929 at village Pabbi and breathed his last on April 3, 2006. According to Sher Zaman he has left behind a huge bulk of Pashto verses and Urdu prose unpublished. The gathering passed some resolutions unanimously asking the government to give official status to Pashto language and create an office for writers and poets in the provincial metropolis. The reference was conducted by Muhammad Alam Yousafzai and Shabbir Durrani and attended by large number poets, writers, intellectuals and fans of the deceased literary personalities.
