PDMA assists relief to moon soon affectees in Pakhtunkhwa
[29.Jul.2010 - 17:15]Thursday, 29.07.2010, Peshawar, PR-The second incessant spree of monsoon rains is continued in most party of country including Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces while the flood hit different cities of Khyber Paktunkhwa. On the directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haider Khan Hoti, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) emergency cell is established which continuously monitoring the flood flow in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and providing information to the masses regarding flood and relief activities made by PDMA. Mr. Asif Ali Farakh, Director Relief & Operation is personally monitoring the whole flood situations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In recent flood in District Peshawar, Nowshehra, Tank, Karak, Charsadda, Mardan, Buner & Swat many people reported trapped and dead but official hand out quoted as Tank, Karak, Charsadda each 2 and Mardan & Swat each 1 persons reported dead while in District Mansehra 12 persons trapped and one dead. In District Tank northern parts inundated by flood water, while in Disrict lakki Marwat flood is reported in Kurram and Gambela river resulting 7 houses fully and 116 houses reported partially damaged. Old Jail premises also inundated and the prisoners shifted to safer places in Lakki Marwat. Similarly in District Mansehra Naran road blocked, Malakandi, Sangarh and Ganol area affected by land sliding, Sumallihai Mung road washed away, khasarai area under heavy flood and three bridges / culverts washed away due to heavy rainfall. In district Peshawar, Nasir Bagh, Regi, Pir Bala, Shahi Bala etc upto Warsak road and Budani Charsada Road areas are under flooding, Ariyana and Mathra areaas are also under flooding. Army mobile and District field formation are busy in evacuation and rescue of the affectees from flood zone. In District Bannu, Kurram River under flooding and Bharan Dam Head Works gate washed away. In Karak, gas pipe line damaged and water supply system washed away by flood water. In district Mardan a Deeni Madrasa at Takht Bhai caved in while in district Swat, river Swat in high flood from Bahrain to Landaki, high flood near Ayub bridge overflowing protection bund and entering police line, however Kanju bridge is open for traffic. In Matta village Kawray and Shakardara affected. Emergency declared in hospitals and emergency control room has been established in Headquarter. Main Mingora Peshawar road is open for traffic. Police, revenue and other departments directed to remain alert. Flood is also reported around Ningwalai, Chota Kalam, Ghwarja, Jalwanan and Imam Dheri. Keeping in view the previous year’s damage, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), upon the directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has released Rs1 million emergency relief funds to 10 districts of the province, besides relief items. PDMA also provided mixed food for 1000 families and 150 tents to DCO Tank. The same is also provided to DCO Lakki Marwat. Also, the Peshawar district administration had been provided sandbags to cope with any untoward incident, press release said. Emergency cells had been established in all the DCO offices in the sensitive districts, besides main relief hub at the relief commissioner’s office in Peshawar, it added. Emergency relief fund of Rs1 million has already been issued to Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Dir, Mardan, Kohat and DI Khan. 1,000 tents each to Kohistan and Shangla districts had been provided during the Attaabad Lake crisis, besides other relief items and 50 tents each given a few days ago for the flood affected people in two villages of Peshawar. The district administration and PDMA was fully prepared to handle the situation arising out of rains and floods, he claimed. He said emergency cell are working 24 hours and would pass on information to all concerned including WFP and UNHCR incase of any disaster. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti has issued directives for provision of food items, medicines and other necessary instruments on emergency basis to affectees of flood and heavy rain in all districts of the province including Peshawar, Bannu. Mansehra and Tank. He said that all resources will be utilized for shifting affectees to safer places. He issued these directives while chairing an emergency meeting sooner after arriving from Islamabad. Damages due to flood and heavy rain in the province were reviewed and important decisions on collective situations have been taken during the meeting. Participants of the meeting included DG PDMA Shakil Qadir, Commissioner Peshawar Arbab Mohammed Arif and other high officials. DG PDMA Shakil Qadir and Commissioner Peshawar Arbab Mohammed Arif briefed the chief minister about the current situations of flood and rain in Peshawar and other districts of the province and said that institutes of the provincial government are fully alert. They said that tents, food items and other necessary equipments have been sent for affectees in Shabqadar, Bannu, Charsadda Mansehra and Tank and other areas adding that all districts administration have been directed for utilizing all out resources for shifting affectees to safer places and accelerating assistance activities. The chief minister expressed profound grief over loss to life and property due to flood and heavy rain and directed concerned authorities for prompt provision of relief and necessary items to affectees adding that no any deficiency in this regard would be tolerated. He said that the government will left no stone unturned for assistance of affectees in this hour of trial. The chief minister was apprised about missing people due to flood wave in Mandha Ghucha Mansehra. The chief minister contacted Mansehra administration and directed for prompt steps in this connection.
